Do we need an Environmental Audit?

In terms of the National Norms and Standards for the Storage of Waste, 2013, every waste storage facility that has a capacity to store 100 cubic metres of general waste must be registered with the Department of Environmental Affairs. In terms of section 16 it is mandatory for such waste facilities to undergo audits on a bi-annual basis.

The Waste Classification and Management Regulations, 2013 places further strenuous requirements on generators and transporters of hazardous waste, irrespective of quantity, with respect to management, disposal, record keeping and training with fines of up to R10 million or imprisonment of up to 10 years for non-compliances.
