IWMSA Notice

Registration of Waste Transporters and Amendments to Waste Information System in terms of NEMWA

Dear IWMSA member,

Kindly note that Boma Edith Edna Molewa, Minister of Environmental Affairs, has given notice of the intention to make amendments to the national waste information regulations, as well intention to require any person or category of persons who transports waste for gain to register with the Department.

The proposed amendments exclude waste reporting for residue stockpiles and residue deposits. It also includes lowering the limits for which recovery, recycling and treatment of hazardous waste need to be reported, as well as time frames.

The notices have been published on 12 December 2016. Please submit comment within 30 days of publication of the notice in the Gazette.

“Back to Basics”
At the eThekwini Buffelsdraai Waste Management Facility


The KwaZulu-Natal Landfill & Waste Treatment Interest Group (LaWTIG) announces the twelfth biennial seminar dedicated to capacity building and technology transfer in the science and practice of waste treatment and disposal by landfill. Landfill 2017 continues this highly successful series, and for the first time it will be held on a major operational landfill. This will give landfill equipment suppliers an ideal opportunity to demonstrate their products in action, and the associated static exhibition will be a good showcase for organisations who have products and services to offer to the waste management fraternity

A detailed abstract (of not more than 500 words) should reach the Chair of the Paper Selection Committee, no later than 25 March 2017
